In ten years, its population has increasedfrom 10,872 in 1840, to 15,933 in 1850 ; its valuation has risen in thesame time from $4,837,310 to $8,847,700 ; and it stands the secondcity as to population,, and the third as to valuation in Middlesex tax-books indicate a community characterized, so far as the distrib-ution of wealth is concerned, by remarkable equality of condition ;while the increase of the general value shows that there is heregreat individual CITY OP NEW BEDFORD.
