Sven Ludvig Loven (1809-1895), was a Swedish marine zoologist and malacologist (study of mollusks). He was the first Swedish arctic researcher and he is credited with naming 174 marine species. The Sven Loven Centre for Marine Sciences at both Kristineberg and Tjarno are named in his honour. He was Professor of Natural History at Stockholm University and in 1881 he was made an honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and in 1885 Foreign Fellow of the Royal Society of London.
