The legend tells of a king's son AMLETH who lived in Jutland before the Viking era. Saxo wrote down his story in the Middle Ages. Shakespeare re-enacted the fate of HAMLET in the Renaissance and linked it to this castle. He thereby ensured the Danish prince eternal reputation and brought Helsingor's name to the world
