A page from the master songbook of Michael Behaim (also Beheim, Beham, Behn), who was born in c. 1420 in Germany and died in the 1470s, written in his own hand. The original is in Munich, Germany, in the State Library. Behaim was a wandering minstrel and poet and, for a time, was in the service of the Emperor Friedrich III. The German text reads: Ich kam auf ein geuilde/Ich Michel Peham von Weinsperg Sultzpach/In eir gepirg, was wilde/ Da was iul wunderleichs geuertz/Da stund ein filbergrube/Mein herz was fro, da ich die ane fach/Darein ich mich nun hube/Vnd wollt' da fuchen silberertz; Ich spurt vil greber, dy waren gewefenee.
