Thesaw which makes the cross-cut will be seen, in fact, to be placedlike a belt or hoop on the circumference of the plane circular sawplate which forms the direct cut, and to widen gradually out to thebreadth required for the cut. This hoop saw is not set at right anglesto the plane saw, but at the bevel which corresponds to the angle of thejoint. The engraving above illustrates only the mode of forming onepart of the dovetail. At the back of the machine provision is made forcutting the other part with equal expedition. An arrangement is alsoprovided for raising the table so that the dovetailing can be done on abevel if desired.
