Kochi Castle (1611). one of only 12 intact castles in Japan, Kochi, Shikoku Island, Japan

17th century Kochi castle, one of only 12 intact castles left in Japan. Of particular note is that the castle is the only castle in Japan to retain both its original tenshu (keep), a fortified tower visible in this image, used as a refuge of last resort should the rest of the castle fall to an adversary and the only castle to have all the original buildings in the honmaru, or innermost ring of defense, still standing.
