In December, 190G, the Stone& Webster Engineering Corporation was requested by theBoston Elevated Railway Company to make an examinationof its power supply and recommend a system of generationand distribution of power which would best provide for pres-ent and future requirements. This report was presented anda comprehensive scheme of power development showed that the requirements of the system atthat time exceeded the capacity of the existing stations by7,500 kilowatts, and it was estimated that this shortage wouldamount to 12,250 kilowatts by the time additional apparatuscould be installed.
