Olivet Congregational Churrh, State Street. 188 ICINGS HANDBOOK OF SPRINGFIELD. organization, was the preaching of the gospel in the community, and to pro-mote a revival and missionary spirit. That has been accomplished in gooddegree. The church has been blessed with revivals. The missionary spirithas been cherished. Benevolence has increased. The Ladies BenevolentSociety has been very active and successful in missionary work, and inaiding the ecclesiastical society. Rev. George H. Gould was ordained anevangelist in this church, Nov. 13, 1862; and Rev. Charles W. Kilbon wasordained a missionary in the service of the A. B. C. F. M., April 10, sabbath school is only two weeks younger than the church. It beganwith four teachers and twelve scholars, — Charles Wood being the firstsuperintendent. It now numbers 340, with average attendance 225, underthe superintendence of John B.
