Moon's orbit, illustration

Illustration showing the Moon's orbit of the Earth. At its closest the Moon is 363,300 kilometres from Earth and at its furthest 405,500 kilometres from Earth. It takes just over 27 days to orbit the Earth and to rotate around its own axis. This means that the same side of the Moon is always facing the Earth.
