Fromelles Pheasant Wood Military Cemetery under construction at Fromelles, France
The new cemetery is due to be dedicated on July 19, 2010, the 94rd anniversary of the Battle of Fromelles. It contains the bodies of250 Australian and British soldiers of the First World War found in mass graves near Fromelles and being buried in individual graves. A joint Australian and British project has been recovering and trying to identify the soldiers through DNA. The project was established in late 2008. The men died in the battle and were placed in mass graves by the Germans.
