MRI directed ultrasound fibroid treatment. MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) being used to direct ultrasound treatment of uterine fibroids. Uterine fibroids are benign (non-cancerous) tumours that originate from the smooth muscle layer (myometrium) of the uterus. The ultrasound is directed into a highly concentrate impact point and used to burn the growths away at temperatures around 70 degrees Celsius. MRI is used to track the destruction of the tumours in real time. Photographed at the CHU (Centre Hospitalier Regional Universitaire de Tours) hospital, Tours, France.
