Electrically Operated Drawbridges. Tlio Pyniionl and Glebe Island drawbridges, both of Sidney, \V. and both connecting important centers of population, havebeen completely electrically equipped by the .Australian GeneralElectric Co., and are to-day among the finest examples of elec-trically operated drawbridges. Both are almost identical in con-struction and electrical equipment. From an electrical point of view the most interesting part of thebridge is the equipment to operate the swing span, the end lifts andthe gates. The length of the swing span is 223 ft. and its weight i,sabout PCX) tons, and although there may be larger electrically oper-ated swing spans, this is believed to he the first instance where all . ingenious latch is used to stop the swing span in its properposition upon the abutment piers.
