In this quaint little settlement cen- ^H^^H tered some of the most spirited minor events of m^^^^^^k the Revolution. Directly in front of it, on the ^^^^^^H noble river whose waves wash its ancient dock, ^^^^^^H was stationed the British fleet during the period from 1776 to 1783; and it was here that, by direct order of Parliament, the American flag was first saluted by the English navy. During the Revolution Snedens Landing was known simplyas Dobbs Ferry on the west side of the Hudson. The oldhouse at the landing, where lived the intrepid ferry mistress,Mollie Sneden, is a landmark to-day for patriotic Americans to visitand enjoy. In Revolutionary daysit was known far and wide as Sneed-ings old house at the Fferry.
