He had sufferedfrom headache for a year, and his sight had been failingfor nine months. A history was obtained of hemi-anopsia having been observed in another hospital. Onadmission he had severe headache and vomiting. Hewas almost totally blind, and hearing was much im-paired on both sides. Both discs atrophic from opticneuritis. Mental state tending to torpor. No paralysisof motion or sensation, but tendency to fall towardsthe left side. He denied having met with
