The River Dee at Cambus o' May Aberdeenshire Scotland

There was originally a ferry here, hence the old ferry inn near the bridge. This building was, in turn, altered by having a corner chopped off to allow the railway through - hence its modern name of ‘Cutaway Cottage’. Managed by Forest Enterprise, Cambus O'May is an attractive highland pinewood with many welcoming facilities for visitors of all abilities. There are four easy to follow way-marked routes with interesting interpretation about the area's history and ecology, and openings in the forest give unexpected views of Lochnagar. Some of the routes are suitable for wheelchairs, while others have seats located at the top of steeper sections. Location 2½ miles, 4 km (3mins) east of Ballater, on the A93. Facilities Range of short, circular way- marked routes. Car park, picnic site and a spectacular viewpoint nearby. Orienteering course maps are available from Lochnagar Leisure Outdoor Shop, Ballater. Just a short walk from a small car park ( east of the main Cambus O'May forest car park) lies a picturesque white suspension bridge. First constructed in 1905 and repaired in 1988, the bridge lies at a graceful bend in the river, the banks of which are ideal for summer picnics. Location 4 miles, km (5mins) east of Ballater, on the A93
