The section shows the sketchingframe for canvas, screwed to a moulded framepreviously mitred and keyed together, inserted asa whole from the front, and readily removed ifrequired. Another treatment is to screw thecanvas frame on to the groundwork from thefront, with a rebated frame made separately,fitting over the picture and screwed to painted decoration of this style of work isusually executed in white, contrasting admirablywith richly coloured pictures introduced into thefireplace, and in some cases in the form ofmedallions attached to the panelling.
