The market at the close of the last, week was much depressed because of the oversupply of chrysanthemums and roses. The real reason for the insta- bility of the market, however, was the flood of mums, which was beyond ex- pectations. The early mums were still in the market, and with the additions of the later varieties the supply greatly exceeded the demand. Prices were about half of those a year ago. White varieties were abundant and the pink- dyed flowers made their appearance. There must have been twenty varieties of mums in the market October 20, among them being Bonnaffon, Chieftain, Golden Glow, Chrysolora, Golden Queen, Oconto, Early Frost, Polly Eose, Pa- cific and the pink and bronze Unakas. The oversupply of roses caused the prices to fall. The best hybrid per- petual roses were easily disposed of. American Beauties sold for $30 per hundred, while Hadley roses have reached $20 per hundred. Prima
