Thaddeus Kosciuszko (1746-1817), Polish engineer and military leader. His full name is Andrzej Tadeusz Bonawentura Kosciuszko (Andrew Thaddeus Bonaventure Kosciuszko). Born in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, Kosciuszko took part in the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783) as a colonel in the Continental Army. He then returned to Poland and served in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth Army. In 1796, he emigrated to the USA. He was a close friend of US statesman Thomas Jefferson, sharing the same ideals of human rights as the Founding Fathers of the USA. This artwork dates from February 1800.
