Aberystwyth War memorial, Wales, UK
The memorial is surmounted by a statue of the Angel of Peace. The figure on the pediment represents peace or humanity emerging from the end of the First World War. The figure of peace is seen walking confidently out of the destruction that war inflicted upon monument was built to commemorate the war dead of the First War, it now commemorates the dead of both World Wars. The Aberystwyth War memorial was built in 1922 to a design by Professor Rutelli of Rome, using stone from Ystrad Meurig Quarry. The inscription in Welsh is 'Dros Ryddid' (For Freedom) and in English 'Greater Love for no man than ' A local legend claims that the wife of a local chip shop owner was the model for the nude statue that has the local name of The floozy with the boobies
