Storm Desmond resulted in over thirty bridges being destroyed or damaged in Cumbria, disrupting transport. In Kendal Victoria bridge, that had been open, is now closed to all traffic and pedestrians after divers discovered that the foundations under its supporting legs had been completely undermined. The closure has caused traffic chaos in Kendal as the bridge is the main crossing in the north of the town over the River Kent.
