Soldiers from the 3d Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), provide final honors for retired Gen. David C. Jones, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Oct. 25, in Arlington National Cemetery, Va. Jones served as the Air Force Chief of Staff from 1974-78 and then as CJCS from 1978-82 in Presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan’s administrations. Jones fought to reorganize the nation's military command, moving to strengthen the chairman's role while curbing rivalry among the services. Jones served his country honorably for 39 years.
