US climate research centre. National Climatic Data Center (NCDC), Asheville, North Carolina, USA. It is the world's largest active archive of weather data. It produces numerous climate publications and sends data to researchers all over the world. The NCDC also operates the World Data Center for Meteorology. There are more than 150 years of data available, with large amounts of new data added every day. Data sources include satellites, radar, remote sensors, aircraft, ships, weather balloons, weather rockets, weather stations, and also human observers. Long-term climate records will enable the observation of global climate changes. The centre was founded in 1951.
