Ancient Indian Coin Circa 500-300
These coins are popularly known as "bent-bars", but the classical name is Satamana (=100 rati) and equal to two Achaemenid Sigloi and belong to the pre-Mauryan period. They circulated in the Kabul and Gandhara region. In this period in time the area was under Persian control. Gandhara and Kamboja constituted the seventh satrapys (upper Indus) of the Achaemenid Empire.
