Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th May 2016 11am – 5pm Traquair House Innerleithen Peeblesshire The Traquair Medieval Fayre is back once again with a marvellous line up of medieval merriment for all ages in the grounds of Traquair, Scotland’s Oldest Inhabited House. A truly authentic Medieval Fayre that this year will celebrate the marriage and gift of the house by the Earl of Buchan to his son, James Stuart who became 1st Laird of Traquair in 1491. A Grand Tournée will take place on the wineglass lawn in front of the house with combat displays with knights in armour, a battle of the shields and grand melée finale. On the grassed avenue spectacular displays of jousting and tilting will take place with a record number of re-enactors setting up living camps and demonstrations throughout the weekend. The old Walled Garden is transformed into a Medieval market with living history displays of everything from making chain mail armour to medicinal remedies. You can have a go at longbow archery, try out the stocks or see how medieval torture instruments were used! Traders and demonstrators include felt making, willow working, medieval forge, bodging and spoon making as well as merchants’ selling leatherwork, jewellery, children’s costumes, pottery and other crafts. There is a great line up of activities for children including a make your own sword and helmet workshop, jester shows and storytelling with Mistress Quill. Falconry displays will also taking place during the weekend and superb Medieval music for the Galloway Consort in the Chapel as well as wandering minstrels.
