WALKER, William H., a Patriarchin the Granite Stake of Zion, is the sonof John Walker and Lydia Holmes,andwas born in Peacham, Caledonia coun-ty, Vermont, Aug. 28, 1820. He wasbaptized in September, 1835, by Abra-ham Palmer, and ordained a Seventyby Benj. Clapp in 1846. Later, he waschosen as one of the ^ esidents of the. 57th quorum of Seventy. May 20, 1892,he was ordained a High Priest and aPatriarch by Pres. Joseph F. 1840 till the expulsion of theSaints from Illinois in 1846, he residedin Nauvoo, 111., whence he moved toCouncil Bluffs, Iowa. Here he enlist-ed as a member of the famous MormonBattalion, and crosed the great plainsand deserts to the Pacific coast. Afterserving his time as a soldier he madehis way to Salt Lake City, where hearrived in the fall of 1847. After re-siding in Salt Lake City for a numbertf years he moved to Big Cottonwood,Salt Lake county, where he has con-tinued to reside ever since. In 1852 hewas called on a mission to South Afri-ca, where he spent about five yearslaboring in the Cape of Good Hope andin the neighboring province on the the past sixteen years he hasbeen engaged in Temple work
