A cutlass M 1842 Double-edged, straight, in the back section slightly waisted blade of diamond cross section (stained), the base of the blade with maker's stamp "N. P. Ames, Cabotville, Mass" on the obverse, " 1842" on the reverse. Brass knuckle-bow hilt (shortened in the usage time) with scaled grip and eagle relief on both sides of the pommel (traces of gilding). Non-matching black leather scabbard and gilt brass fittings (faded). Signs of wear and age. Length circa 68 cm.
