Neuville-St-Vaast cemetery lies south of the village of La Targette. A total of 44,833 soldiers who died in the First World War are buried here. The cemetery was established by the French between 1919 and 1923 and served as collection sites for German dead who fell to the north and east of Arras. This is the largest German WWI war cemetery in France. Dead German soldiers were relocated from more than 110 parishes in the Département Calais.
