Atthe right handside of the tomba marble slababout two feetwide extends thelength of the cham-ber. This marbleis much worn bythe millions of kisses that have been tearfully andreverently pressed upon it by the pilgrims of manycenturies. Two score of golden lamps, continuallyburning overhead, shed a soft but brilliant light uponthe tomb. Our visit to the interior of the tomb wasshort; for not more than five persons may stand in it.
