Every storekeeper realizes the necessity oihaving a system, by which an accurate ac-count can be kept of his receipts and dis-bursements. Various plans have been tried, the most general of which is that of keepinga book, in which the sales are recorded andthe various amounts put down as they arepaid out of the cash drawer. The result is, in the majorityof cases, the cash does not balance, the ac-counts cannot be made to come out straight, and, wheie the cash is short, as it frequentlyhappens, clerks are unjustly suspected ofdishonesty. A bill of $5 may be paid out ofthe drawer by a clerk when he is very intends to make an entry of it, but, start-ing to wait on a customer, forgets about the cash is balanced that night thereis a shortage.
