The Placer Herald is aweekly Democratic paper, and the Argus, aweekly Republican paper. From the point where the locomotive stands,the Sacramento River can be seen on the left, asalso from other points as the train continueswestward. Soon after leaving the station, therailroad crosses Dutch Ravine, at the head ofwhich is Bloomer Cut, where the train passesthrough an interesting conglomerate, showing awell-exposed strata of boulders, sand and coarsegravel.
