Anatomical Diagnosis: Acute lobar pneumonia; acute bronchopneumonia; abscess of lung; acute fibrinous pleurisy; pigment inliver and spleen; healed gastric ulcer. In all these cases plasmodia were found, and the Widal reactionwas negative. Quinine was given in large doses both by mouth andsubcutaneously; baths were used to reduce the temperature, butwithout any practical result; strychnine was given subcutaneously asa stimulant, also alcohol in large doses.
