London Bridge Tower, or The Shard, rising behind Merrick Square in Southwark, London.


Merrick Square forms part of Trinity Village - the properties off Borough High Street owned by the Corporation of Trinity House. Plans for the square were drawn up in 1853 by the Coroporation's surveyor and the building work was completed in 1856 by Cooper and Bottomley of the Old Kent Road. The area is now a mixture of single houses and flats and is managed for the Corporation by NB Real Estate. When completed in 2012, Shard London Bridge will be the tallest building in Europe at 1,017 ft (310 m) tall. it will hold a mixture of offices, apartments and a hotel.
