Rainbow in a fountain, with statues of gods from ancient Greek mythology.

The Archibald Fountain (full name J F Archibald Memorial Fountain). Built in 1932 in art deco style it commemorates the association between Australia and France during the first world war. It was built for this purpose as instructed in the will of J F Archibald. The sculptor was M Francois Sicard. At the top of the sculpture sits Apollo representing beauty and light. At the base are three further Greek gods: Diana, goddess of purity; Theseus with the minotaur, and the un-named god of fields and pastures. See also BCMRDW.
