The Order has spread rapidly throughout the entire Union, fromthe Atlantic to the Pacific. It has now on its roll more thanninety thousand active members. As Commander-in-Chief Reaintimated in his address, that time will gradually decimate theranks of the G. A. R., and old age will enfeeble the survivors, thereshould be a union of younger men upon whom they could leanfor support, who would be worthy of their charge and who would. ladies aid SOCIETf. 51 foster and perpetuate the purpose for which they suffered andbled. When the necessity for such an organization became ap-parent, the Order of the Sons of Veterans, U. S. A., sprang intoexistence to meet that necessity; and well have they met it, itsmembership being made up of the best blood of the land, youngmen well drilled in military tactics, who are devoted to theircountry, and who cherish the memory of the brave deeds of theirfathers. At a call of their country they would be among thefirst to spring to arms, and, incited by the deeds of their fathers,they would soon rival them in their devotion to preserve the honorand integrity of the Stars and Stripes. ladies aid to the Sons of Veterans, U.
