A boiled, cooked cockle that was gathered by a forager at low tide by hand. The cockle appears to match the description for the Rough Cockle, Acanthocardia tuberculata, although the rough cockle is very similar in appearance to both the spiny and prickly cockle. The prickly and spiny cockle live in the sub-littoral zone, while the rough cockle can be found in the littoral zone which is where this one was gathered. This would suggest the identification is correct, however this conclusion should be treated with caution. They are very tough when cooked. Dorset England UK GB
