Nothing in travelling is soagreeable to me as the occasional possession of a study, especiallya quiet little old room like this where I am now writing. Itseems like a sort of home, with my books on a shelf and aspacious table to spread my papers. There is a fine staircase in this house with some good forgedironwork, and there is also good ironwork at the back of thehouse in the narrow street. Some of the rooms are stately bothin size and decoration, with old-fashioned adornments of carving. Macon, the Hotel du Saavage. and painting and marble.
