AIRIX nuclear weapons testing. X-ray of materials being used in simulations of nuclear explosions. The X-ray was obtained at the AIRIX facility, where a high-intensity electron beam is accelerated to generate an X-ray pulse to produce 3D images of materials being used to simulate nuclear weapons. Together with the Laser Megajoule (LMJ) and the TERA-10 supercomputer, the AIRIX facility is part of the French simulation programme developed to avoid the need for nuclear tests. Photographed at the Military Applications Division (DAM) of the French Atomic Agency (CEA), in Moronvilliers, France.
