Accordingly the descendants of theyoung lawyer have his commission on parchment,issued 21st of June, 1805, signed by Joshua Elder,Prothy, by order of the Court, with the seal ofthe county attached. In 1808, Mr. Hamilton editedand published The Times at Lancaster, and upon theremoval of the seat of government to Harrisburg,with William Gillmor, The Harrisburg Chronicle, the. leading and influential newspaper at the State capitalfor twenty years. The Chronicle was the first paperin Pennsylvania which gave full and systematic Leg-islative reports. He died at Harrisburg, on the 3d ofSeptember, 1836, aged fifty-one years. Mr. Hamiltonmarried, Jan. 6, 1807, Rosanna, daughter of AdamBoyd and Jeauuette MacFarlane, born Dec. 1, 1789,died April 17, 1872. They are both buried in theHarrisburg Cemetery. Mr. Hamilton was a vigorousand polished writer, and his editorials were modelsof elegant composition. For a quarter of a centuryhe wielded considerable political influence throughhis newspaper. He was an active and enterprisingcitizen, twice chief burgess of the corporation ofHarrisburg, frequently a member of Council, andhighly esteemed in social intercourse. born Feb. 14, 1818, at Harrisburg, Pa.
