Although not defeated, Washington wisely removed hisforces to North Castle, about five miles further north. As theBritish general indicated an intention of attacking the Americanposts on the Hudson, with a view to penetrating into New Jer-Bey, Washington, leaving three thousand troops with ColonelMagraw, for the defence of Fort Washington, crossed the Hud N°5.
