Thousands of Palestinian demonstrators had gathered at various sites along the Gaza-Israeli border for this Friday Great March of Return rallies, chanting slogans, waiving the Palestinian flag, and with some throwing stones at the Israeli army based on the other side of the fence. Israeli soldiers fired rubber-coated bullets, live ammunition, and tear gas to disperse protesters, and according to the Gaza Health Ministry at least 40 Palestinians were injured, including a paramedic. The Great March of Return started at the end of March 2018 to call for an end of 12 years of Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip, and since then the Israeli army has shot and killed more than 300 Palestinians and wounded thousands. Today’s protests come ahead an US-led economic conference in Bahrain due to discuss economic initiatives for the Palestinian territories.
