Coral reef research. Researcher carrying out an experiment in a laboratory to study the biology of coral reefs. These are samples of genetic material from the coral, being prepared for denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE). This technique separates DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) fragments to create a genetic fingerprint of the community being studied. Photographed at the University of Newcastle, UK.
