X-ray - kidney stones

An x-ray showing stones in the kidney. Urolithiasis is the medical term used to describe stones occurring in the urinary tract. A kidney stone is a hard mass developed from crystals that separate from the urine and build up on the inner surfaces of the kidney. If the cystals remain tiny enough, they will travel through the urinary tract and pass out of the body in the urine without being noticed. A larger stone may get stuck in a ureter, the bladder, or the urethra. A problem stone can block the flow of urine and cause great pain. Kidney stones are a common cause of blood in the urine and pain in the abdomen, flank, or groin. Kidney stones are sometimes called renal calculi.
