In size and gen-eral appearance both buildings are alike. They are built of cut stone,and ornamented with Doric porticoes. Each building is about 400feet long and 100 feet in depth. There are on the grounds varioussmaller buildings, lodges, workshop, museum, etc. The grounds arebeautifully arranged, and laid out as a pleasure resort for the inmates. The largest, handsomest, and most conveniently arranged collegebuildings of any in the country, are those belonging to the Univer-sity of Pennsylvania, located in West Philadelphia, on a square ofsix acres, fronting on Locust Street, and extending from Thirty-thirdto Thirty-fourth Streets. There are three immense structures. Thefirst building, devoted to the department of Arts and Science, is con-structed of green serpentine stone, ornamented with gray is a central building, with wings.
