We had only one good snow-storm onthis trip, which gave us three days sportwith he dogs. After that the snow meltedoff and we could not use them. We turnedloose on three different occasions. Twicethey treed and the other time were hot onthe trail, when we were forced to take themoff on account of the lynx getting in downtimber, where the dogs had no chance. Wekilled two lynx, both of which the dogstreed after a run of about four hours. Wenever found a fresh lion track, consequentlywere cheated out of a specimen. We badfour first class dogs. With a fair chance theywere dead sure of their game, and Fred toldme a lion was as good as ours if we couldfird a fresh track. We also killed twobeautiful coyotes from this camp. Grouse, WESTERN FIELD. trout, snowshoe rabbits, ducks and othersmall game were brought in daily. Andrew and I spent several days fishingin Crystal Creek. In two hours time onecould catch about fifteen fish which wouldeasily fill the basket, none of them weighingless than one pound and several going closeon to three pounds. Xear the close of our trip I saw oneherd of elk containing not less than 2000head. Jim and I were lunching on top ofa range when we heard a shot. Aboutthree minutes after, on the opposite rangeand about one half mile away, came thisbig herd on the run. The side of themountain seemed literally alive with elk andfor fully one hour after they were in sightat different times, as the band broke up andcrossed small open parks in the timber. Andrew and Joe each killed a mule deer. I shot at three different bucks but missedthem all, one at 75 yards standing. Allwere beautiful specimens, one in particular, carrying a head with about fourteen were well supplied with meat d
