Women's Garden Group, Tera, west Niger: Ramata Hama, 38, one of 52 women in the local gardening group that was started by her mother in 2005. Last year's crop failure, due to poor rain and grass-hoppers, means that the community's cerial bank is empty. The garden provides both food and income for the families allowing them to send their children to school, buy animals and most importantly eat through the food crisis.
