Hand coloured photograph of Darwin in old age based on the 1879 Photograph by Elliot and Fry. According to Gene Kritsky, who maintains an archive of Darwin photographs, the Elliot and Fry image was from a session at his home, Down House, in 1879. Darwin was famously not keen on having his photograph taken by strangers. Here he is placed against a background resembling the trees of his Sandwalk where he did his thinking.
