In October, 1886, the Painesville andYoimgstow^n was changed from narrow gaugeto standard gauge and the operation of the linetaken over by the Pittsburgh and Shiland still retained his rights as conduc-tor and for a long time w^as local conductor onthe Lake Branch, the last four years of his serv-ice, how^ever, being on fast freight runs overthe main line, New Castle Junction to continuous service of thirty-seven years,pension was granted Mr. Shiland in December,1912.
