Numer-ous additional grants and privileges were issued and promulgated from1511 to 1525 in favor of the German merchants and the HanseaticLeague, such as releasing them from taxation, giving them the privilegeof conducting transactions in excess of 10,000 ducats, etc. Perhaps themost curious concession granted the German merchants in Lisbon wasthe edict of December 23, 1524. which gave them the right to dress intheir native costumes, and accorded permission for them to ride onhorses or donkeys.
