The primary seat of the changes isthe lining membrane of the vessel, in the outer layer of which, corre-sponding to ^^ fenestrated, coat^ they are first met with, as I haveoften observed, after macerating and dissecting diseased arteries. That atheroma consists essentially in a fatty and granular degenerationof a portion of tlie arterial wall there can be no doubt. With thisdegeneration inflammatory products are foundassociated.
