In 1819 ho went to Russia, wherehe painted for the Emperor about 400 portraitsof the chiefs of the Russian army, who had, withthe assistance of the snow, vanr|uiBhed became an Associate of the Royal Academy in1809, and an Academician in 1814. He mademuch money by his expedition to Russia, but didnot live to enjoy it ; for he died six weeks afterhis return to England in 1829, and was buried inSt Pauls Cathedral.
